Solves problem of many new TV's having no headphone jack
Brand new Samsung 43" TV has no headphone jack :( ...only has a Digital Audio output port, which I'd never even heard of before. Due to minor hearing loss, I bought this DAC to wear headphones while wife listens to TV via regular speakers. No more annoying "What did they say?" from me. Alternatively, if you watch TV late at night and don't want to disturb neighbors, you can listen nice and loud through headphones with this while TV volume is all the way off. Just arrived yesterday, so this isn't a long term assessment, but here are the initial impressions. PROS - Solidly constructed, mostly metal - Smaller than I expected (see pics) - Includes digital audio cable that's a decent length (2 ft.?) - Installed a splitter to the headphone audio out jack, with no output loss in either set of headphones CONS - USB power input does not completely accept the USB plug. Still functions, and the plug doesn't fall out, but it doesn't go more than 1/2 way in. Badly made part. - unit must be plugged in to AC to function (not really a con, but something you should be prepared for) If any negative things happen I will update this review, but for now I'm pretty happy with this DAC and would recommend it.

Must switch audio output settings on TV to PCM instead of Dolby Digital 5.1 to work.
If it doesn’t work for you switch your TV output from Dolby Digital to PCM. It did not work at all for me and I originally gave it a 1 star review. Then I realized it didn’t have a decoder so I switched the audio output type in my Samsung Smart TV to PCM from DD 5.1 and it works great now.

Very nice
Worked very well for me. Sound quality is good. There is no noise. And the volume control works as expected. I am using this to add a subwoofer directly to tv. It worked well and so I don't need a separate soundbar

It ran like it was on rails. All i had to do was plug it in and Bam it worked.
Sturdy case has a solid feel the volume pot was strong and clean ( no noise ). altogether a very good unit for its price. Well worth the money.

Convenient and easy to use
The converter is very convenient for me to use. I can adjust the volume as I like and it is much easier to use with a volume adjustment button. It is powered by a USB power cable and it is low power consumption. Perfect for me to use.

Works well
This audio extractor from digital was a very pleasant surprise My Samsung Blu-ray player outputs digital audio signals when using an HDMI to DVI display, and it works well. I am very satisfied with its audio quality.
